If you are a web designer & developer, I have some great news for you! In this video I hope to add something unique and something different to this topic as I’m sure there are plenty of videos out that cover this already.
Here are 5 methods or strategies if you want to call them that that a web designer and developer can use to make passive income in web design. Mentioning these strategies is even more critical for the indie designer and developer who makes their own hours. Sometimes clients are not the most reliable source of income.
So let’s jump right in:
1:14 Create and sell a WordPress theme on big marketplaces such as Theme Forest catered to an audience looking for original themes that are easily customizable.
If you are not great at creating a WordPress theme from the ground up, here is a resource you can use that has helped me understand WordPress hooks, design strategies for WordPress themes, set-up, functionality and more!

This book goes into detail about what it takes to actually build a WordPress site from start to finish; doubly clarifying linguo such as loops and how they work, etc. I personally love using CSS3 (another Chris Coyier specialty) to customize WordPress themes in the WordPress repository as the templates are easier for me since I have a working knowledge. But if you are a complete beginner, then this will be a wonderful resource for you.
3:11 Sell Graphic templates on a marketplace similar to what you do on Theme Forest. You have many options for this as you can create “stock graphics,” sets of icons, fonts, clip art, and more. Usually these graphics are created using a program such as Adobe Illustrator and made to really pop using Photoshop. Don’t sleep on this method as it can bring you a nice little piece of change.
To last three strategies, well you’re going to have to finish the video. Like I said before, there are a multitude of passive income strategies in 2018 on the web (especially YouTube), but you won’t see a lot of people talking about passive income strategies in web design and passive income strategies in web development.
